Silent Epidemic: What a Survivor of Domestic Violence Wishes You Knew (Chicago)

Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 10:00am
This event lasts 0 days 3 hours and 0 minutes.

Domestic violence is a silent epidemic with 1 in 4 women and 1 in 5 men being victims. It is a crime that does not discriminate crossing ethnic, racial, educational, and income lines. Some victims bear visible signs of their trauma while others have scars that are hidden. What victims have in common is a deep sense of shame, guilt, and embarrassment, oftentimes blaming themselves for the crime. Odds are you have or are working therapeutically with someone who has a trauma history of abuse. In this session you will gain a greater understanding of 1) the nuanced behaviors of domestic violence, 2) the impossible dilemmas victims face, and 3) key strategies for helping victims find hope and healing.
