HURRY! Early Registration for the 2017 NASW-IL Chapter Statewide Conference~

There's still time to get a discounted rate when registering early for the 2017 NASW-Illinois Chapter Statewide Conference: A Meeting of the Professions.  The conference will take place starting as early as Sunday, October 22 for a Pre-Conference CEU event through Wednesday, October 25.  This year, the conference will take place at the Westin North Shore in Wheeling, IL.  This is sure to be a great opportunity for CEUs and networking and will, like always, have a great lineup of speakers and topics to attend.  As this is a licensure renewal year, this is also a great opportunity to get those needed CEUs.  With up to 20 CEUs available, attendees can obtain their needed face-to-face CeUs along with the required cultural competency and ethics CEUs.

Early Bird Deadline: August 31, 2017

Our August 2017 Highlighted Social Worker/Member of the Month is Mark Zinger.  Mark took some time to answer a few questions I had for him and here's what he had to say:

Q: What do you do as a social worker Mark?

A: I work primarily as a clinical therapist for Gibson Area Hospital, servicing patients through various local rural health clinics.  I also facilitate a bi-weekly therapeutic group for juvenile sex offenders and adolescents struggling with sexual problematic behaviors through a private practice.

Q: Can you tell us about your agency or institution in which you practice social work?

A: Gibson Area Hospital and its mental health clinics provide psychiatric and counseling services for patients who live in rural central Illinois.  We utilize various evidence based therapeutic techniques such as DBT, EMDR and CBT to help our patients.  Our psychiatrists are able to utilize tele-psychiatry in order to provide psychiatric care for our patients who are miles away from the doctors.

Q: Can you describe any specialties or interests that you have in the field of social work?

A: There are many other therapeutic skills that I would like to learn and utilize such as play therapy and EMDR.

Q: How long have you been a member of the NASW?

A: I've just joined NASW around the Spring of this year.

Thanks so much for sharing Mark and it's is great to learn more about you as a a member of the East Central District!

Please feel free to reach out to me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with ideas on upcoming district events, to help out or to nominate someone as the next East Central Highlighted Member of the Month.

Take care and I hope to see you soon!
