August 2017 - Student Network SIG Update

It’s back-to-school time for NASW student members. The NASW-Illinois Chapter Student Network Shared Interest Group (SIG) addresses the interests and needs of our student members. With the coming new school year, the NASW-Illinois Chapter is looking for students volunteers to serve as student liaisons for the 2017–2018 school year as well as student monitor volunteers for the 2017 NASW-Illinois Chapter Statewide Conference! Take part in your professional organization!

Student Monitor Volunteer

Apply to become a student monitor volunteer!

We are still seeking student room monitors for October 24 and 25, 2017, for the upcoming statewide conference. The 2017 NASW-Illinois Chapter Statewide Conference: A Meeting of the Professions will take place at The Westin North Shore in Wheeling, Illinois. The conference will feature over 80 workshops including intensive workshops focusing on child welfare, ethics, diversity and cultural competence, advanced practice training, and leadership and management. We expect 700 to 800 social workers to attend over the duration of the conference. This is a great opportunity for you to network with professionals in the social work field as well as participate in the largest Illinois social work conference! All workshops and events are FREE for volunteers to attend on the days in which they are working. A conference room monitor will make a BRIEF presenter intro (pre-scripted), assist with registration, set-up, guide attendee traffic, stamp CEU forms in the beginning and end of each day’s workshops, as well as any other tasks assigned by the NASW staff. Applicants should be able to attend (at minimum) a full day of workshops, have a friendly attitude, and be able to work well in a fast-paced environment.

Student Liaison

Apply to become a student liaison!

What does an NASW-Illinois Chapter Student Liaison do?

  • Liaisons serve as a vital point of contact between the NASW-Illinois Chapter and schools. Liaisons will help with the organizing and promotion of possible trips to campus by the NASW-Illinois Chapter for candid talks with students identifying student needs as well as presentations about NASW membership, licensure, and networking events.
  • Liaisons will keep their campus informed about and help the NASW-Illinois Chapter promote this year’s conference, held October 23–25, 2016, in Wheeling, IL.
  • Liaisons also serve as contacts for their school for the annual Advocacy Day which will take place in spring 2018 (exact date TBA). Since a date cannot be announced until the spring legislative session is announced, student liaisons will help keep their school abreast of important news relating to Advocacy Day as well as organizing their school attendees on the day of the event.
