"Serving on the NASW Illinois Chapter Board of Directors is a unique opportunity that enables social workers to network with social work leaders and members around the state, and at the same build up one’s list of contacts as well as advance one’s own professional standing. Serving on the NASW Illinois Board of Directors also brings visibility and exposure to your organization and/or practice. A board position also helps develop and apply one’s leadership skills and make a difference by being involved in advocacy efforts that impact social workers statewide. I encourage members to review the 2011 Leadership Packet to learn more about how a potential leadership position in your professional association can enhance your own professional standing as well as the status of the social work profession." —Joel L. Rubin, MSW, CAE, NASW Illinois Chapter Executive Director

I have been an active member of the NASW Illinois Chapter for the past fourteen years. My experience with serving in different capacities on the NASW Illinois Board of Directors has provided me with an excellent opportunity to share ideas and information with colleagues in the field of social work. One of the most valuable experiences has been to stand with other social workers to ensure that the voices of social workers and the people that we serve are heard.”—Yolanda Jordan, NASW Illinois Chapter President

My experience in being part of NASW Illinois has been exhilarating. Through it I have had the opportunity to meet other students who share the same interests as me while being educated in the policies of social work. NASW Illinois has also given me the opportunity to make a difference through advocacy for social workers and those whose lives are impacted though the work of social workers.” —Jervai Drago-Dumas, MSW Student Representative

Being a member of NASW has awarded me the opportunity to be involved in many capacities. Through my involvement, I have networked and been able to work with many other social work professionals throughout the state and develop some wonderful friendships. I cannot think of any other area within my career where I have met so many talented individuals who share the same passion as I in being a social worker.” —Maudette Carr, NASW Illinois Chapter Secretary

Joining the NASW Illinois board of Directors has given me an opportunity to really understand the valuable work NASW Illinois does and add to its impact on social workers, providers, and communities. There have been certain issues of importance to me for some time, and now I really feel that I have a seat at the table to where they are being discussed and acted upon.” —Alexander Brown, Chicago District Chair
When I was initially approached with the offer to run for district chair, I thought it would be just another set of meetings to attend, and I did not know how I could possibly fit any more meetings or responsibility in to my schedule. But, the reality was far from what I had imagined. The reality became an enriching and overwhelmingly positive experience! I have gained not only leadership training, but friendships throughout my district and state.” —Candi Gray, East Central Illinois District Chair

I joined the NASW Illinois Board of Directors in June 2008 and while I was initially overwhelmed, it has and continues to be a rewarding endeavor. Being a member of the board allows me the chance to meet other dedicated and extraordinary social workers who are as passionate about the field as I am. Being on the board, I am reminded that as social workers, we are an elite group of people with a purpose and mission to help those we serve.” —Joan M. Lodge, Jane Addams District Chair

My work on the board has broadened, refreshed, and brightened my social work network. I have met outstanding fellow professionals from all over the state and taken inspiration from the stories of their work.—Joan Richman Ente, Member At-Large
