December 2016 - Chicago District Update

Grisel Rodriguez-Morales, MSW, LCSW
Chicago District Chair

2017 Social Work Month

We’re accepting nominations for the 2017 NASW-Illinois Chapter Social Work Awards. Please consider nominating a colleague for one of these awards: Social Worker of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, Public Citizen of the Year, and Emerging Leader. The Chicago District unquestionably has a great number of talented and dedicated public citizens and social workers deserving such recognition. Click here to learn more about each award and access the nomination form.

Join the Supervisory Leaders in Aging (SLA) Program

Another cohort of the Supervisory Leaders in Aging (SLA) Program is about to begin! With generous funding from the John A. Hartford Foundation, the NASW has launched this professional development program that seeks to strengthen the supervision of staff providing direct social services to older adults and their families. Participants gain gerontological knowledge over the course of five full-day workshops. They also receive 30 CEUs, including three hours on cultural competence. Additional information about the SLA program in our website.

Get Involved!

The NASW-Illinois Chapter has several active shared interest groups (SIGs) to cater to our many member needs and interests. Get involved and join a NASW-IL SIG! Click here to fill out a short online form. The chair(s) of the corresponding SIG will reach out with more information about ways you can get involved with an existing SIG or in the planning of a new one!

Another way to get involved and make a difference for social workers in Illinois and beyond is by joining the NASW-Illinois Chapter Board of Directors. Joining the Board is a great way to implement change, share your knowledge, and voice your opinions. Consider nominating yourself or someone else today! Additional information on 2017 chapter leadership opportunities and comments of past and present board members, available in our website.

It’s been quite encouraging to see so many members seek out opportunities for advocacy, networking, and continuous education. We hope you continue being involved and never hesitate to reach out to us with questions and suggestions.

A big welcome to new members to the NASW and the Chicago District:
