July 2017 - Three Rivers District Update

Mary Abbott MSW LCSW

Hello Three Rivers !

I would love to introduce myself. My name is Mary Abbott, and I was elected to replace the vacated Three Rivers District Chair. The former chair, Deborah Perry, had filled this position for the last 3 years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her service and for her time assisting me in transitioning into this position. I know I have big shoes to fill!

My Bio: I completed my master's in social work degree at Aurora University in 1997. I am employed as a full-time school social worker for a large district. I just completed my 20th year and have spent the past four years as lead social worker. I am also adjunct professor at Aurora University in the Graduate School of Social Work, and I provide supervsion to social workers seeking their clinical hours for LCSW supervision. Additionally through a small private practice I provide psychotherapy to individuals, familiies, and couples. I am passionate about trauma-informed care/sensitive practices and building strong relationships with my clients. I believe in connection, genuineness, and caring in order to empower change. Recently I was named the NASW-Illinois Chapter Statewide Social Worker of the Year (2017).

I am looking forward to all the new experiences and challenges I am about to embark on. I hope to bring members relevant, useful and informative CEU opportunities.

For those of you who are not awares the state of Illinois is split into 8 regions under NASW. Each region has a district chair representative that sits on the NASW-Illinois Chapter Board of Directors. Three Rivers District includes Kane, DuPage, and Kendall counties.

I would really like to hear from members as to what kinds of CEU topics you would be interested  in. Please email me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with any questions or areas of interest. I am planning my first event in August.

I would love to hear from all of you regarding day, time, and location that you would be most convenient for all of you so I can try to accommodate in the future. I look forward to meeting all of you and hearing about how I can be of the most assistance!
