Lobby Day Around the Corner

Gary Kenzer, ACSW

With our annual Lobby Day event just around the corner, we have a number of items to bring to your attention. First, visit the NASW Illinois Chapter web site at: http://www.naswil.org/ and register online NOW. Please complete the NEW SECURE form to register for the 2005 Lobby Day! Remember Students SAVE $2.00 per registration off the full price of $14.00 (TOTAL OF $12.00) if registering online.

Whether you are attending Lobby Day, every social worker should know who their legislators are. The following web sites will help you locate this information: http://www.vote-smart.org/ (You will need to know your zip code plus 4 number – To locate your plus four zip code, visit the United States Post Office web site: http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/. )

Once you have identified who your state senator and representatives are, email them an introductory letter and tell them you will be attending Lobby Day 2005 on Thursday February 17th. You can do this right from the Vote Smart website.

Visit the NASW Illinois website home page for information on our schedule of the day’s events. There you will also learn what our issues are for the day and year and the list of speakers.

Social Workers Serving in Elected Office Campaign

For many years, NASW at National and at the Chapter level have been active in encouraging social workers to run for political office. Annually, NASW PACE publishes a book on those in office. We are now ready to assist our National PACE in updating the list and seeking additional names not included.

To see the complete list nationwide, visit the NASW National website: http://www.socialworkers.org/ pace/state.asp

Call or email Gary Kenzer with any changes or additions to the list as soon as possible. (Gary can be reached at the Chapter office ext 114 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) If there are more social workers holding elected office, we want to know who you are. Beginning this spring, we will have a new feature in the Networker. PAC Illinois volunteers will be interviewing social workers who are holding an office and we want to include everyone. Considering a run for an office in your community? Call Gary and see what help the association can give you.

Let’s top the 700 attendance mark at this year’s Lobby Day event.

See everyone at Lobby Day 2005, February 17
