May 2017 - East Central District Update

Kenna Dunlap Johnson

Hello East Central District Members!

April was a quick month and as we close out the academic year, there are sure to be some great opportunities for networking and CEUs throughout the state for NASW members this summer. Thanks to all who participated in any of our Social Work Month events across the state as well as any of the great April events that took place!

Financial Literacy Event at ISU

Thanks to all who attended the Financial Literacy event that took place at the ISU Alumni Center in April.  This event provides social workers with much needed information and resources to assist clients facing financial challenges. If you didn't get a chance to attend but would like to, please look for this event again in the future to be held in one or more of the NASW-IL Chapter districts.

Welcome New Member!

Upcoming Events -

Early Registration Open for the 2017 NASW-IL Chapter Statewide Conference

The 2017 NASW-Illinois Chapter Statewide Conference: A Meeting of the Professions is now open for early registration.  The conference will take place starting as early as Sunday, October 22 for a Pre-Conference CEU event and will go through Wednesday, October 25.  This year, the conference will take place at the Westin North Shore in Wheeling, IL.  This is sure to be a great opportunity for CEUs and networking and will, like always, have a great lineup of speakers and topics to attend.  As this is a licensure renewal year, this is also a great opportunity to get those needed CEUs.  With up to 20 CEUs available, attendees can obtain their needed face-to-face CEUs along with the required cultural competency and ethics CEUs.

NASW Statewide Election

If you did or didn't get a chance to vote in the recent NASW-IL Chapter election, please look for results of the election this month.  Results should be posted on the website around mid-May.  Thanks to all those who ran for a seat and offered to volunteer their time for such an important association that supports the social work profession.
