May 2017 - Three Rivers District Update

Deborah Perry, LCSW

There are still a few seats left for the all-day event on Friday, June 2, 2017, Immigration Today: Cultural and Ethical Considerations, which offers 3 hours each of cultural competency CEUs and ethics CEUs. The morning session will address cultural issues regarding working with immigrant populations and will be presented by Angela Gallo, LCSW. Angela has a wealth of knowledge and experience to share in working with immigrant couples and families in nonprofit and private practice settings.

The afternoon session will include a panel of professionals who work with undocumented immigrants and their families to help them successfully gain legal status. Discussion will address ethical dilemmas in regard to working with immigrants, especially those who are undocumented. Special attention will be given to recent changes in laws and practice. Panel members will be Noe Figueroa and Abner Salazar from Alianza Hispanoamericana NFP, Angela Gallo, LCSW, and Deborah Perry, LCSW, both of whom are in private practice and conduct assessments for families who apply for the I-601A waiver (application for provisional unlawful presence).

Also included in the day will be guests who will share their own stories of immigration struggles.Their stories will be very interesting and enlightening.
