October 2014 - Committee on Diversity and Cultural Competence

Diane Zosky, PhD, LCSW, ACSW

The Committee on Diversity and Cultural Competence has had several meetings from July through September. The primary focus of the committee has been to develop a recommended definition of "culture" in order to clarify what might constitute appropriate continuing education units (CEUs) to qualify for cultural competency CEUs. Additionally the committee developed recommendations for content for cultural competency CEUs. These recommendations can be found on the NASW Illinois Chapter website. The document on recommendations are advisory and not regulatory as the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation is the regulatory body for social work CEUs.
