2013 NASW Illinois Chapter Statewide Conference: Day Two

Joel L. Rubin, MSW, ACSW, CAE,

We pride ourselves of having a mix of both practitioners and academic presenters at the chapter statewide conferences. This was again evident by the variety of workshops offered on day two of the conference. Day two also was the first day of the conference Exhibit Hall which brings together vendors from human service organizations, residential and treatment facilities, hospitals, and elder care companies. The Exhibit Hall provides our attendees an opportunity to network and learn more about referral sources, possible employment opportunities, and much more. The Exhibit Hall will also be open tomorrow morning at 8:00pm in the hotel’s Junior Ballroom where both breakfast and lunch will be provided. Tonight’s Exhibit Hall culminated with the iPad raffle, a new staple at our conferences since 2011. This year’s winner, Jen Snyder, is director of student services at Ridgewood High School. Congratulations! Join us again tomorrow in the Exhibit Hall as we give away the second and final iPad.

Our social media wall was up and running today with many creative and positive comments about the day’s presenters. If you haven't already, be sure you're following NASW Illinois on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, and don't forget about our popular mobile app!

We have been assisted the last two days by our volunteer student monitors in each workshop. These include students from Dominican University, Loyola University Chicago, Erikson Institute, Aurora University, St. Francis University, and DePaul University. The volunteers included Jasmine Mack, Krystina Haas, Sarah Kasterin, Cythia Arias, Colleen Favuzzo, Mary-Margaret Sweeney, Lisa Toban, Sarah Kasterin, Alvie Bender, Nora Whitlock, Yadira Toro, and Janet Hurtado. We thank you all for your positive attitudes throughout this conference!

We also welcomed many new and returning members with our Become a Member in 30 Seconds! campaign. They were acknowledged on Twitter as they signed up.

Tomorrow is the last day of the 2013 conference. Attendees have one last day to earn their CEUs at the conference. See you tomorrow!
