July 2010 - Committee on Diversity and Cultural Competence Update

Thomas Kenemore

The Cultural Competence and Diversity Committee is working to schedule a summit meeting of interested members in order to achieve greater clarity about its vision going forward. The committee has provided excellent training programs, Networker articles, and presentations at NASW Illinois conferences and meetings in the recent past. The members of that committee are intent on impacting policy and programming in the near future and long-term. NASW Illinois members who recognize the importance of cultural competence and celebration of diversity, broadly defined, are encouraged to join this effort. Tuesday, August 3, 2010, is the date tentatively scheduled for the summit meeting. You can express you interest by contacting the NASW Illinois office, and/or by e-mailing the commitee. Carl Johnson, Thomas Kenemore, and Barbara Wahler presented a workshop in June focusing on race, immigration, and white privilege issues relevant to practice.
