NASW Illinois Chapter Board of Directors Meet in Chicago

Joel L. Rubin, MSW, CAE, NASW Illinois Executive Director

The NASW Illinois Chapter Board of Directors coincided with the third worst snowstorm in Chicago history, with a little over twenty inches of snow that pounded the city and most of the state. On Thursday evening, the NASW Illinois Political Action Committee hosted a reception for James Cappleman, LCSW, an NASW Illinois member running for alderman in Chicago’s 46th ward. You can read more about James here.

Highlights of our Friday Board meeting included a presentation by Ralph Martire, executive director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability. Ralph, who has been a regular popular panelist at our annual Social Work Advocacy Day in Springfield, IL, discussed with the board an analysis of the recent Illinois tax increases and spending caps implemented Under P.A. 96-1496. Ralph will again be presenting at the 20111 Advocacy Day on March 2, 2011, in Springfield, IL. Don’t forget to sign up here to join us!

Over lunch, the Chapter presented its 2011 Emerging Leaders Awards to:
  • Shelley Milosevich, MSW, LSW – Director of Health Community Relations
  • Chasity Wells-Armstrong, MSW – recently served as Constituents Services Director for Congresswoman Halvorson
  • Robert Campbell, LCSW, QCSW - Department of Psychiatry at the University of Illinois College of Medicine
  • Amy Terpstra, MSW– Associate Director, Heartland Alliance’s Social IMPACT Research Center
Their bios and photos can found on the chapter website.

The Chapter Board of Directors also recognized Gary Kenzer, ACSW, MSW, who served as consultant to the NASW Illinois Political Action Committee (PAC) for the past twelve years.
