Organization of the Month: Chicago Abortion Fund

Alexander Brown, Chicago District Chair

The Chicago Abortion Fund (CAF) fights to overturn economic barriers to reproductive choice. Through direct service, CAF assists women in obtaining safe abortion procedures. In partnership with the women they serve, CAF engages and mobilizes low-income and poor women to become advocates for expanded reproductive access.

CAF provides low-income women with reduced-fee referrals, direct financial assistance, and general information about safe, legal abortion services. Through its education/advocacy component, CAF also works to increase public awareness about the urgent need for government funding of abortions as a part of the full spectrum of reproductive health services.

This year the Chicago Abortion Fund celebrates twenty-five years of making choice possible for all women. For more information:

While on the NASWIL website, I was researching CEU hours but immediately became sad and sickened by this feature on the website that focuses on an agency, Chicago Abortion Fund.  It seems asinine that an agency can get recognition for these “services” that they provide.  In this society, those who encourage the use of abortion have lost all sense and respect for life.  The choice has been made sexual acts were performed and the outcome is life.

This is a sad occurence that an organization such as NASW would promote a business such as this.  Women in these situations need support for themselves and their unborn baby.  Giving Life to a baby should trump the choice to terminate life

I am pleased to say I am not a member of NASW nor would want to be after I see what they “spotlight’.  Instead, I will align with groups/organizations that share my passion in the field of Social Work and our concerned for all humans not just those with power.
