SIG Meeting: Retired Social Workers (RSWs)
The National Association of Social Workers is your association. Why not take advantage of all the opportunities it has to offer? Within each of our eight localized districts are ongoing leadership opportunities, CEU workshops, and networking events organized just for you. NASW Illinois is your networking link to what’s going on in your community and the social work profession at large. This is your professional organization—make the most of your membership, and get involved!
Consider joining one of the many Committees and Shared Interest Groups within the NASW Illinois Chapter. They include:
Committees:
* Committee on Ethics
* Committee on Diversity and Cultural Competence
* Political Action Committee
Shared Interest Groups (SIGs):
* Mental Health SIG
* Retired Social Workers SIG
* International Activities SIG
* Student Network SIG
* Mediator's SIG
* Older Adults SIG
* Social Workers in Transition SIG
In addition to getting involved with one of the NASW Illinois Committees and SIGs, there are also always several CEU courses and networking events taking place all over the state. Getting involved in your local district is a great way to not only build your resume, but to also gain leadership skills. NASW Illinois District Chairs often organize networking events in their districts for members to come and meet with social workers in their area and discuss job opportunities, best practices, and more.
Each district also has a leadership committee that identifies social work leaders in their area and offers professional recognition to these individuals each year at annual awards ceremonies.
But most importantly, if there is something you’d like to see happen in your district, whether it be starting your own Brown Bag Lunch series, a book club, a CEU workshop on a specific topic, or anything else, contact your district chair or the chapter office directly. This is YOUR association—make sure it reflects YOUR interests!
