Region IX Rep, NASW National Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification (NCNLI)
“NASW came on my radar during graduate school. Truth be told, I joined because this was prior to being able to hop online and do research for papers—joining gave me easy access to the [NASW publication] Social Work as a membership benefit, thus saving me hours in the library!
My NASW involvement began on the local level as the Jane Addams District Chair; I eventually served as the NASW Illinois Chapter President from 2003 to 2005. I’ve been involved with the NASW Illinois Chapter Political Action Committee (NASW IL PAC) and other committees, most recently chairing the Chapter Committee for Nomination and Leadership Identification (CCNLI). CCNLI has been a great experience, keeping me in touch with emerging and established social work leaders that will keep our chapter moving forward. This past year I served as Region IX rep to the National Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification (NCNLI). I was inspired to see the number of leaders in our region willing to consider serving NASW on the national level.
NASW has given me the opportunity to learn about different facets of social work and make a contribution to the profession. However, it’s the people who have kept me involved with NASW during my career. I’ve met—and had some great times with—many knowledgeable and committed people that have been supportive to me professionally and personally.”
