LOBBY LEADERS

Interested in delving into the legislative process as a social worker? Join us in Springfield for a day of training followed by a morning of lobbying in the capitol!

The NASW-Illinois Chapter is seeking social work students from around the state to lead and network with other students and professionals from their districts. Lobby leaders serve a vital role on Advocacy Day to help educate and lead social workers through the capitol to scheduled meetings with their senate and house legislators. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow social workers in YOUR neighborhood and work together to create real institutional change.

Our specially customized, one-day training will prepare accepted NASW-Illinois Chapter Lobby Leaders (LL) for the Advocacy Day & Rally on Thursday, April 2, 2020. Lobby leaders will learn effective lobbying techniques, learn about their local state senate and house representatives and other elected officials, and be trained on navigating advocacy tools to effectively represent social work priorities.

Individuals accepted into the NASW-Illinois Chapter Lobby Leader program will be required to attend the full-day training on Wednesday, April 1st, as well as lead groups during Advocacy Day on Thursday, April 2nd. Lobby leaders will receive lodgings for one evening at the hotel. Lunch is included with the training on April 1st as well as breakfast at the hotel on April 2nd. Lobby leaders will also be responsible for their own transportation to the hotel as well as the following day to the Illinois State Capitol.
