August 2021 - Northeastern District Update

Jenny Andersen, Northeastern District Chair

Dear Northeastern District Members,

Welcome to August! It’s my honor to have been elected as your new volunteer Northeastern District Chair. A little bit about me: I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Grayslake North High School and a therapist at Gurnee Counseling Center. My wife and I live in Evanston with our geriatric pitbull. I am passionate in my work about equity work, specifically anti-racism and inclusion for trans and nonbinary folks. In my life and work, I am big into mindfulness practice and social justice.

If you’d like to get to know me a little better, I invite you to join me for a webinar on Ethical Considerations for Interrupting Implicit Bias on Friday, Sep 17, 2021, from 11:30am to 1:00pm (1.5 CEUs). This interactive presentation will explore implicit bias and give participants research based interventions to interrupt implicit bias. To register, please visit https://naswil.wufoo.com/forms/43020091721ethical-considerations,

Warmly,

NASW-IL Advocacy at Work: Governor Signs HB3308, Making Permanent Many 2020 Telehealth Provisions

This month, Governor Pritzker signed House Bill 3308 into law, making permanent many of the provisions made in 2020 to allow for safer access to healthcare for all Illinoisans. Most critically, the legislation aligns telehealth coverage and payment with in-person care, making appropriate patient access to care the priority. Passage of this bill was made possible by members like you who contacted their legislators and stressed the importance of access to telehealth in the lives of their clients.
