Jacki Brunk, LCSW, Northeastern District Chair
Welcome to the monthly district update of the Northeastern District! As summer draws to a close, we are experiencing severe thunderstorms and intense heat. I hope everyone is staying safe and able to find some joy during these challenging times: Exploring outdoors in nature, spending time with family or good friends, or providing your own unique self-care.
There are some important announcements below, and some exciting new training opportunities coming soon. Please feel free to reach out to me with questions or feedback.
Next District Event: Save the Date for September 29th!
We have scheduled a CEU event for September 29, 2022. Benji Martin, LCSW, and therapist at Head Heart Therapy will present on, “Understanding the Traumatic Marginalization of the LGBTQIA+ Community." Through this presentation, Benji will describe the ways in which system oppression impacts the therapeutic relationship with LGBTQIA+ clients, adults and adolescents included. Benji will also help participants understand ways this population experiences marginalization as well as help participants analyze their own internal biases. This event will be held at the Gorton Community Center in Lake Forest, from 10am-1pm. More information and a registration link will be available shortly. You can also check the NASW-IL website for registration information in the coming weeks.
