May 2020 - Three Rivers District Update

Diana Alejandro, Three Rivers District Update

Hello Three Rivers,

I’ve thought about what words I can bring to you this month that would speak to the times we are currently experiencing. It’s been seven weeks since our lives were turned upside down. We yearn for the times when we would gather with family and friends to celebrate birthdays, milestones, or just to be with them. No longer will there be days at the parks, museums, or going out to eat without thinking about social distancing. So what do we say to each other in these times of uncertainty? Three things that may help: 1) remember your purpose, 2) practice compassion and gratitude, and 3) be vulnerable and share your feelings. Stay safe and healthy.

Thank you to our 51 renewed and reinstated members—you are the backbone of our chapter.

DISTRICT EVENTS

The chapter is currently hard at work booking presenters and working with them to build up interactive virtual trainings. If you have suggestions of presenters in your area or would like to propose a training yourself, please reach out (threerivers@socialworkers.org)

CHAPTER ELECTIONS

The elections for the 2020 NASW-Illinois Chapter Board of Directors has concluded. The final results will be posted to the chapter website in mid-May. Thanks to all who took part in voting in the chapter elections!

CHAPTER AWARDS

Deadline: July 31, 2020

Now more than ever, social workers deserve recognition on the ways they’ve been contributing to their communities. Nominations are now being accepted for the annual NASW-Illinois Chapter Social Work Awards. Please consider nominating an individual in your area who’s going above and beyond and deserves recognition for all of their hard work. The chapter is seeking nominations in the following categories: Social Worker of the Year; Public Citizen of the Year; Lifetime Achievement Award; and Emerging Social Work Leader. For more details about the awards, go to: https://www.naswil.org/post/accepting-nominations-for-the-2020-social-work-awards.
