At a time of deep division and growing threats to vital programs, the NASW-Illinois Chapter cannot afford to wait until petition season is over to act. The decisions made in the next few years will determine whether our state continues to support vulnerable families, protect critical services, and uphold our shared values.
That’s why the NASW-Illinois Chapter is taking the unprecedented step of making early endorsements for the 2026 election cycle. In this time of crisis, it is essential that we elect ethical leaders who understand the challenges facing our communities. There is no better voice to lead that fight than a social worker.

NASW-IL Endorses Senator Karina Villa for IL State Comptroller
As the only licensed social worker (LSW) currently serving in the Illinois State Senate, Senator Karina Villa has been a tireless advocate for social workers and the communities we serve. Her work has shaped policies that directly strengthen our profession and expand access to critical services across the state.
From addressing the statewide social work shortage to creating equitable pathways to clinical licensure, Senator Villa has consistently championed legislation that reflects the values and ethics of our profession. She has stood on the front lines of debates to ensure clinicians are supported and empowered to meet the growing needs of Illinois residents.
Senator Villa is now ready to take that leadership to the Office of the Illinois Comptroller. This role is not just about reporting numbers and paying vendors; it’s about setting priorities. With federal funding cuts threatening programs that protect our most vulnerable populations, Illinois needs a comptroller who will stand firm, ensure transparency, and hold those in power accountable.
During times when funds are limited, we need a leader who will put nonprofits and essential community services first, not wealthy special interests. Senator Villa understands the human impact behind every decision and will fight to make sure resources reach the people and organizations who need them most.
This is a pivotal moment for our state. By electing a social worker to oversee Illinois’ finances, we send a clear message—our communities deserve a government that sees everyone, not just those with connections to the powerful and affluent.
Join us in supporting Senator Karina Villa for Illinois Comptroller, a true champion for social workers and the communities we serve.
