November 2022 - Southern District Update

Diona Shelton, DSW, LCSW, CATP, CCTP

Southern District Chair

Hello Southern District!

I hope everyone is well and enjoying the beauty that the autumn season brings. The association continues to be busy as the chapter prepares for this month’s social work conference in Lisle, IL. We hope that those who are planning to be in attendance in-person have an amazing time networking with colleagues and, of course, gain some useful information that benefits their professional practices. If you are not able to make it to this month’s in-person conference, the chapter will be hosting a live virtual conference in December. In addition to serving the chapter, I have been quite busy finishing up my doctoral education. I must say that it has been a challenging, yet rewarding experience, and I am overjoyed to announce that I have completed my doctoral program. I am looking forward to a bit of rest before moving full speed ahead into the quickly approaching holiday season. May each of you find time and value in resting to care for yourselves as you continue to serve others.

Warm regards,

Dr. Diona Shelton, DSW, LCSW, CATP, CCTP

NASW-Illinois Chapter Announces 2022 Illinois General Election Endorsements

While every election seems pivotal, the upcoming election will greatly determine the future of social work and human services in Illinois. Many of the crucial decisions that impact funding for human services, reforms for DCFS and DOC, and protections for our clients in the state will be made by leaders elected by Illinois citizens on November 8th. Therefore, it is crucial to endorse candidates who support legislation and policies consistent with the goals of the social work profession.
