Hello!

I hope everyone enjoyed their break and is slowly getting back into the swing of things!

The BIG announcement is that Advocacy Day has been posted and will be held on April 16th! You can read more about it on our website: https://www.naswil.org/advocacy-day.

Moreover, the Student Liaison Network will be meeting on February 2nd from 4:30-5:30 PM. If you want to join, please reach out to me!

Below is some information about our application for NASW-Illinois Chapter Lobby Leaders! Give it a read here or on our website! The application for becoming a lobby leader can be found at the bottom of this email.

2024 NASW-Illinois Chapter Lobby Leaders

We're looking for students who would like to participate in this year's 2024 NASW-Illinois Chapter Advocacy Day as Lobby Leaders. This position allows the students to get training to help educate and lead social workers through the capitol to schedule meetings with their senate and house legislators. They will also serve as the point person for these meetings. This would be a two-day requirement. The first day (April 15) is the training and the second (April 16) would be the navigating to legislators.  A few things to keep in mind would be:

Requirements:

- Current social work student at an accredited School of Social Work

- Available to commit to BOTH days (April 15 & 16)

- Have reliable transportation to and from Springfield

Furthermore, preference will go to applicants registered to vote in the state of IL and to individuals who maintain residence in the state of IL.

Applications will only be accepted up to March 25th.

Students interested should fill out the link https://naswil.wufoo.com/forms/z4q3cye00occz2/. Any further questions, please reach out to me (kwagner.naswil@socalworkers.org).

Best,

Kara Wagner (she/her)
