January 2023 - East Central District Update

Melissa Box, LCSW, LSOE, LSOTP East Central District Chair

Welcome to 2023! Regardless of your experiences in 2022, I hope 2023 is starting off for you with hope, peace, and opportunities for growth in the new year. As a reminder, I will be on maternity leave from February through April. I will return in May! I will have email access (ecentral.naswil@socialworkers.org), so please don’t hesitate to reach out, but if you need an immediate response, please feel free to contact the NASW-IL Chapter with any questions! I look forward to being back together with you all when I return in the spring! I am also working on planning a CEU event and a networking event for some time in the next few months, so keep an eye out for those on the calendar! I would also like to take a moment to encourage EVERYONE to learn about joining the NASW-IL Chapter Board of Directors. This is not just for clinicians, or professors, or individuals with decades of professional experience. We value a wide variety of perspectives, including those new to the field and those who have been practicing for a long time. Do you want to make a difference for social workers in Illinois and beyond? Do you have expertise in a particular method or field of social work practice? Do you hold a unique perspective that you believe is under-represented? Joining the NASW-Illinois Chapter Board of Directors is a great way to implement change, share your knowledge, and voice your opinions. If you aren’t sure you’re ready to get involved in your professional association, please read more about it. If you know someone who you think would be a great addition to the Board of Directors, you can also nominate a colleague for a leadership position!
