NASW again calls on lawmakers to take action to stop the epidemic of gun violence in the aftermath of a shooting at a hospital in Tulsa

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is deeply saddened by the loss of life in Tulsa and extends our condolences to the victims, their families, and the entire community.

The deadly attack at Saint Francis Hospital was carried out by a patient that targeted his doctor and was armed with an AR-15 that was legally obtained that same day. Two doctors, a hospital staff member, and a patient lost their lives and many more were injured.

With communities still reeling from the traumatic mass shootings in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas and now in Tulsa, Oklahoma, we once again call on lawmakers to take immediate action to stop this epidemic of gun violence through passage of common sense and life-saving gun laws.

Continued inaction and lack of demonstrated political will to do what is right and what is necessary only contributes to the outrage and grief already felt by impacted communities. NASW calls on lawmakers to commit to action - enough is enough.

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), in Washington, DC, is the largest membership organization of professional social workers. It promotes, develops, and protects the practice of social work and social workers. NASW also seeks to enhance the well-being of individuals, families, and communities through its advocacy.
