Social Work IS Professional!

The Department of Education has proposed a new definition of "professional degree" that would exclude master's and doctoral programs in social work and many other professions. This change could have serious implications for the social work field and the students who are training to serve our communities. NASW is alarmed by this action and is working to reverse it. “This is a time when we need all social workers to speak up. We want to let everyone, including policymakers, know about the power of social work and our profession,” said NASW CEO, Anthony Estreet, PhD, MBA, LCSW-C.
NASW is currently at work—with coalitions to send a unified message, at the state chapter level by sending out action alert, and reaching out to our elected officials. All are involved in preparing next steps like getting systems in place to flood the upcoming public comment period.
