We're looking for a 2023–2024 social work intern for the academic school year!
Spend your internship with the largest professional association of social workers in the state of Illinois. The NASW-Illinois Chapter social work internship is a project-based position with a remote team environment (live virtual) based out of Chicago. Our interns receive practical hands-on experience, invaluable access to leaders in the social work field, access to educational trainings (including our Social Work Licensure Test Review Course), and a stipend! PLEASE NOTE: This is a mezzo/macro social work internship, not a micro social work internship.
Reports to: NASW-Illinois Chapter Executive Director Joel L. Rubin and Events Coordinator Renee Facchini
Major Responsibilities / Functions
The NASW-Illinois Chapter Social Work Intern position is a remote position, working to assist both the NASW-Illinois Chapter Executive Director and Events Coordinator to assist with administrative, governance, and policy issues, as well as with event programming for the chapter. Interns will meet with executive director and events coordinator 3-4 times per month in-person for further guidance on tasks.
Work with Executive Director
Serve as liaison to eight chapter districts in conjunction with executive director; assist in compiling district reports for board meetings
Attend quarterly NASW-Illinois Chapter Board of Director meetings, NASW-Illinois Chapter Committee meetings, as well as outside coalition meetings and seminars relative to social work practice
Work with select chapter committees and Shared Interest Groups (SIGs) which strengthen the membership, advance and promote the profession and strengthen the social work workforce.
Assist the NASW-Illinois Chapter Executive Director with ongoing research initiatives
Chapter Event Programming
Plan and coordinate major activities of Social Work Advocacy Day scheduled for spring in Springfield in conjunction with executive director and NASW-Illinois Chapter professional staff
Assist chapter professional staff in ongoing chapter continuing education events, including in registration, marketing, and quality assurance of trainings
Plan and coordinate virtual social work job fair in winter 2024
Develop the chapter Student Network Shared Interest Group in conjunction with student representatives on the NASW-Illinois Chapter Board of Directors to plan Advocacy Day and promote student interests
Qualifications
Current BSW or MSW student
Must take internship for credit
