Updated: Aug 5

Patricia Schofield, Jane Addams District Chair

Hello Jane Addams District Members,

Warm greetings Jane Addams District Members

Well, we made it to August 2020. I hope this finds you all doing well and making the best of hard times. As members of NASW, we are aware we belong to the professional organization most committed to our success as a social worker. Through this pandemic, our organization has been strong and supportive leading and advocating for us and our clients. It is a great reminder of what we gain from membership and why we belong.

Together let’s welcome the following new and renewing members: David Bingaman, Meredith Chance, Jenna Chumbley, James Davies, Beth Drennen, Jennifer Frick, Sharon Gambo, Elizabeth Lawson, Annika, OMelia, Megan Orr, Diane Podolak, Andrew Selander, Christina Steele-Lietz, Elizabeth Vinik, Helen Woodrum. Thank you for your support because together, we keep our chapter strong.

Did you register for our district workshop? It’s taking place on August 27, 2020, from 9:00am to 12:00pm on GoToWebinar.

Ethics: Understanding, Participation, and Avoiding: The Social Worker's Role in Our Courts Our instructor, Jonathan Nye, is a practicing attorney in Illinois. He has developed a philosophy of assisting human service providers in avoiding litigation, maintaining confidentiality, and assisting providers in managing their practices with insight into the potential legal pitfalls inherent to such practices. Jonathan Nye's workshop is timely, informative, and leaves you wanting more. This presentation will cover the social worker's role in child abuse related matters, family law, probate, guardianship, worker's compensation, social security, and disability. In addition, social workers will be provided with resources to identify how and under what circumstances the court may ask them to participate, and how to avoid participation in such matters.

NASW Registration fee: $90 Nonmember, $50.00 NASW Member (includes eligibility for up to 3.0 CEUs)

Upon registration you will be given instructions on how to join the GoToWebinar. Follow this link to register: https://naswil.wufoo.com/forms/43020082720-jane-addams-eventethics/

As we continue to reopen Illinois, stay safe. Thank you for all you do.

Peace,

Patricia Schofield
