December 2021 - East Central District Update

Melissa Box, LCSW, LSOE, LSOTP East Central District Chair

What do you need, next?

I am in the process of planning our next district-wide event, and I want to make sure you are getting what you need from NASW-IL. Do you want to connect with others in our district? Are you ready for an in-person meet-up or do you prefer Zoom? Or are you looking for a solid training opportunity to improve your clinical skills, your cultural competency, or your general social work practice? Please e-mail me at ecentral.naswil@socialworkers.org to let me know what you’re looking for, and I would love to make it happen!

New Year Transitions

I hope the end of 2021 brings you some peace and hope for the new year. I have enjoyed getting to know you all in my first year as East Central District Chair, and I look forward to many more events and opportunities that we will plan in the future! I am especially thankful to the board and the team at NASW-IL for their welcome and support. Who are you thankful for as you reflect on this year? I have no doubt that the families that you have served, advocated for, and helped this year are thankful for you!

I leave you with these words from Alfred Lord Tennyson’s poem, “Ring Out, Wild Bells":

Ring out the old, ring in the new,

Ring, happy bells, across the snow:

The year is going, let him go;

Ring out the false, ring in the true.

Thank you,

Melissa Box, LCSW, LSOE, LSOTP
