June 2020 - Northeastern District Update

Lynn Zakeri, Northeastern District Chair

A new month, a new stage, new parameters, new rules, new coping mechanisms. That’s what we do as social workers: we gather our information and figure out ways to make things work when they need to work. You are making it work, for your clients, your communities, and for yourselves. Thank you for persevering as social workers.

We will plan to resume some in-person events as the rules and safety parameters shift, and I will be following NASW-IL’s protocols and guidelines and keep you updated when I have events planned. If there are topics you are really interested in, please, as always, shoot me an e-mail.

In the meantime...our chapter needs nominations!

(Deadline: July 31, 2020)

Per NASW-IL update:

Now more than ever, social workers deserve recognition on the ways they’ve been contributing to their communities. Nominations are now being accepted for the annual NASW-Illinois Chapter Social Work Awards. Please consider nominating an individual in your area who’s going above and beyond and deserves recognition for all of their hard work. The chapter is seeking nominations in the following categories: Social Worker of the Year; Public Citizen of the Year; Lifetime Achievement Award; and Emerging Social Work Leader. For more details about the awards, go to: https://www.naswil.org/post/accepting-nominations-for-the-2020-social-work-awards. All nominees except Public Citizen of the Year must be current NASW members.

Thank you to all of you who registered for the recent webinar. I look forward to seeing some of your faces again this summer.

Take care of yourself.

Be well.

–Lynn
