June 2022 - Calumet District Update

Latesha Newson, LCSW, Calumet District Chair

Greetings Calumet District!

Happy PRIDE Month! This month comes with exciting transitions as this will be my last district update as your Calumet District Chair. It has been an honor to serve you for the past three years. There has been much growth and expansion in our chapter as it relates to our membership, as well as our efforts in advocacy and influence on policies on social justice. I look forward to transitioning to the role as your new president-elect for our chapter as well as continuing in my current role as chair of the NASW-Illinois Chapter Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Calumet District, I leave you in the hands of a great leader, Samantha Allen, MSW, LCSW, who will be your new Calumet District chair. She comes with a wealth of experience in our field and is a strong advocate for change.

We will have one final workshop that I am hosting on June 21, 2022, titled:

ICYMI: IDFPR Waives License Renewal Fees and Initial Application Fees for Frontline Healthcare Workers

As reported by the chapter back in May, Governor Pritzker announced plans during his February budget address to waive licensing fees for nearly 470,000 frontline healthcare workers. An FAQ was released by the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation (IDFPR) which provides answers to some of the frequently asked questions around the fee waiver. We have collated below some of their FAQ into the questions most pertinent to social workers. We announced changes in IDFPR licensure renewal requirements in an article published on November 30, 2021, and updated it with frequently asked questions. We’ve been getting questions from members about whether the in-person CEU waiver will be repeated for the new cycle.
