September 2021 - East Central District Update

Melissa Box, LCSW, LSOE, LSOTP East Central District Chair

Back to School, Back to School…

For those of us who work with children and families, this is a transition fraught with change, stress, and adaptation. For some it is a breath of fresh air and a return to “normal;” and for many others, it is anything but that. Check out this great resource from the CDC about how to help kids and parents with the return to school: https://www.cdc.gov/childrensmentalhealth/features/COVID-19-helping-children-transition-back-to-school.html

Looking Back and Looking Forward

We had our first district event on August 31st and it was a wonderful time of connection and self-care! Abi from SoulSide Healing Arts led us through a fantastic, chair-based yoga exercise, and provided us with great resources for how to apply yoga practice to working with clients who have experienced trauma. Reach out to me if you would like to know more about how to connect with Abi or apply yoga in your practice.

Our next event will be in October or November – stay tuned!

A Meeting of the Profession - 2021 Multistate NASW Conference

This year’s biannual conference is going national! This year’s A Meeting of the Profession: 2021 Multistate NASW Conference will be hosted with our sister chapters in North Dakota and Nevada. Taking place on October 21 & 22, 2021, up to 8.0 CEUs will be available over the two afternoons. Join us for a virtual day of education with social workers from all over the US as we explore the latest advancements in the social work profession in 2021! And with our workshops qualifying for LSWs, LCSWs, PELs, LPCs, LCPCs, LMFTs, RNs, LPNs, APNs, LCPs, and some ICB credentials, there’s no reason not to attend! Find out more at http://naswmeets.org/

There are plenty of CEU’s available at some upcoming events, trainings and conferences! Please reach out if you need help finding the right training or continuing education opportunity to fit your needs. I’m happy to assist!

Thank you,

Melissa Box, LCSW, LSOE, LSOTP
