September 2022 - Calumet District Update

Samantha Allen, MSW, LCSW, Calumet District Chair

Greetings Calumet District,

I hope you all are well and in good spirits. September is here, and fall is approaching! I hope you all have enjoyed the summer and are preparing for an amazing fall.

I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone that participated in the district's first Networking Lunch and Learn Event. We had a wonderful time learning about each other and the amazing work the we are all doing in the field of social work. I’d like to extend gratitude to our Events and Education Coordinator, Renee Facchini, for assisting with this and all other events for our district. A special thanks to our President-Elect Latesha Newson, LCSW, for her time, presence, and for providing updates on our district’s success, advocacy efforts, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee information, and ways for members to get involved. Well done!

It was great to connect with you all. I hope to have more opportunities to connect and support each other. I look forward to meeting and working with as many of you as I can during my time as the district chair.

Feedback on Social Work Compact Still Needed!

There is still limited time to submit you feedback on the initial draft of the Social Work Compact as released by the Council of State Governments (CSG). In light of recent reports on the biased nature of ASWB exams and how it affects the Interstate Licensure Compact, please note that the initial draft of the Social Work Compact as released by the Council of State Governments (CSG) currently requires passage of the ASWB bachelors, masters, and clinical exams as well as a federal background check. If you believe these requirements are of concern, please submit your feedback in the CSG survey here. Learn more about the Social Work Compact here.

IDFPR Licensure Updates

Questions about licensure requirements and in-person CEUs still remains the top questions from our members! If you haven’t already checked out our in-depth article about IDFPR requirements for the 2021–2023 licensure cycle, be sure to read it here: https://www.naswil.org/post/idfpr-licensure-renewal-requirements-for-2021-2023
