The National Association of Social Workers – Colorado Chapter is heartbroken by the horrific attack that occurred today in Boulder during the peaceful "Run for Their Lives" gathering. We extend our deepest support to the victims, their families, and to Colorado’s Jewish community during this time of pain, fear, and grief.
What happened today is not only a violent assault on individuals—it is an attack on the values of dignity, justice, and humanity that we, as social workers and as Coloradans, are committed to upholding. The right to peaceful assembly and advocacy must always be protected. No one should fear violence for expressing concern over human rights or gathering in solidarity.
Antisemitism, hate, and bigotry have no home in our state or our society. We condemn this act of terrorism and the hateful ideologies that fuel such violence. As we enter the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, we hold our Jewish colleagues, clients, and community members especially close.
As a profession rooted in social justice, we also recognize and condemn the broader patterns of dehumanization, violence, and oppression that continue to harm communities around the world. NASW-CO remains steadfast in our commitment to human rights, dignity, and the safety of all people—everywhere.
Social workers are called to challenge injustice and affirm the inherent worth of every person. NASW-CO stands in unwavering solidarity with those targeted and reaffirms our commitment to creating inclusive, safe, and just communities for all.
In solidarity,
The National Association of Social Workers – Colorado Chapter
