December 2021 - Southern District Update

Diona Shelton, LCSW, CATP, CCT

Southern District Chair

‘Tis the Season!

It is that time of year when the hustle and bustle of the season is well underway. As we enter the month of December, let us take time to pause, reflect, and practice gratitude for the many positives that we have experienced in our own lives and the lives our clients. Social work is often said to be “a work of the heart.” Thank you to the many social workers who show up for clients day in and day out to help those in need of our services. Social workers make the world a better place through education, advocacy, community organizing, and countless other ways to strengthen multiple areas within the lives of our clients. Thank you for all that you do for the populations that you serve!

Best regards,

Diona Shelton, LCSW, CATP, CCTP

Upcoming Southern District Networking Event

Please mark your calendars! The Southern District is preparing for its next networking event that will be held on January 21, 2022, from 10:00 to 11:00am.

Abi Amstutz-Spencer is a trauma-informed yoga Instructor from Peoria, IL. Though currently a full-time student at Illinois State University, she teaches weekly yoga in a variety of community, studio and gym settings. She is especially passionate about completing the stress cycle, or trauma response, in body-kind ways by using intuitive mindfulness practices. (If you ever get caught in an elevator with her, prepare for a pitch on all things nervous system/self-care.) In addition to teaching and student-ing, Abi is an author, primarily of poetry and affirmations. But mostly, she’s so honored to meet you. As she would say, “All of the goodness in me sees, honors, and loves all of the goodness in you.” This event is designed to blend mind, body, and spirit through trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness practices. You can look forward to an informative presentation on the intersection of trauma and mindfulness healing modalities (mind), an all-abilities chair yoga session (body), and a guided meditation and breath exercise (spirit). Come with your questions, your tight shoulders, and your spinning mind—there is space to soften, get answers, and restore self-care intentions.

CHAPTER NEWS

2019–2021 LSW/LCSW Licensure News and Updates

This month we’ve had a rash of updates to report as IDFPR provided several changes to the 2019–2021 licensure cycle. In short, the IDFPR website is now allowing for LSW and LCSW licensees to renew online, and the deadline to renew and obtain CEUs for the current licensure cycle beginning on December 1, 2019, has been extended to February 28, 2022. We have been monitoring and responding to many member questions about renewal in the NASW Illinois community in MyNASW. For updates as they are announced, please make sure you are enrolled in the NASW Illinois community in MyNASW.
