February 2021 - Northeastern District Update

NASW-IL Staff

Lynn Zakeri, Northeastern District Chair

Hello Northeastern District! I feel a new energy this month and can’t help but feel hopeful about what is to come, which leads me to our upcoming event, COVID-19: What’s Next? I am finalizing an hour of discussion for us to talk about what we see coming, what we are anticipating, what we fear, what we embrace. Two other social workers will join me in leading this panel, but I am hoping it will leave us all feeling supported and simply good when the hour is over. Look for an e-mail announcing the date/time/registration soon as it won’t be a large group to leave plenty of opportunity for discussion.

A couple of other items worth noting:

Many board positions are opening up for elections, including our district. If you would like to submit a nomination, you can do so here: https://www.naswil.org/post/join-the-2021-nasw-illinois-chapter-board-of-directors

I wanted to remind you to sign up for MyNASW. Are you wondering how you can become involved? What CEU requirements look like? What our local chapter is doing about social justice? Or how COVID-19 is affecting our work? It is all here, and if you can’t find your answer, a quick post will likely get you a response by a colleague or by NASW-IL with an answer. Here is an example of a post. This one is on licensure renewal: https://www.naswil.org/post/updates-on-2021-licensure-renewal

Additionally, NASW-IL has many events you can sign up for and attend virtually, and of course still at the same NASW member fee you have always enjoyed. Please let me know of any speakers or topics you would like me to suggest to our district to pursue! With that being said, if another informal Virtual Gathering feels helpful to process all we have going on, please let me know and I will get that on the calendar asap. You can send me an e-mail at northeastern.naswil@socialworkers.org.

There is also a new update announced about Advocay Day. It will be April 8, 2021, and it will be virtual. You can read about it here: https://www.naswil.org/post/announcing-2021-virtual-advocacy-day

Take care of yourself this month, as you take care of so many others.

Lynn
