February 2023 - Chicago District Update

Updated: Feb 3, 2023

Michael Mallory, MSW, LCSW, Chicago District Chair

Hello Chicago!

We are inching closer to spring; while we were spoiled with a warmer than usual winter, we are paying our dues over the last two weeks with the drop in temperatures. Nonetheless, as Chicagoans, we are built for this!

While we move forward, I want to share with you all that I am still in the works of finalizing an event to be held in late March. This will be an in-person CEU event that will be focusing on risk mitigation and ethics. Please keep an eye our for an e-mail from me in the coming week about this event as I confirm the date and location of the event.

In terms of CEU requirements, I have been monitoring chatter among the message boards throughout different social media, and there are rumors that the in-person CEU requirement has been waived; to my knowledge and that of the NASW-Illinois Chapter, we have not received official communication from IDFPR that this is the case. That said, my professional recommendation is to assume that this requirement remains in place until official notification is made from IDFPR. Also, please make sure to review the CEU update section of this update so that you can refresh your memory on the new CEU requirements that went into effect in 2022.

Thank you for taking the time to view my message and for your continued support.

Humbly yours,

Michael

Public Service Loan Forgiveness [PSLF]

I encourage those of you who have federal student loans and that applied for the limited PSLF waiver in October to check their loan servicing website for updates. Over the course of the last week many individuals have been reporting that their PSLF status has been updated to reflect the waiver which may have counted previously ineligible payments. That said, please check your loan servicer website for more information. If you’re unfamiliar with PSLF please click HERE to read more about it.

2021–2023 LSW/LCSW Licensure News and Updates

It is important that you take the time to review the updates from IDFPR regarding NEW CEU requirements. Most importantly, the State has put forth a requirement for licensed folx to receive at least one CEU hour of Implicit Bias training. Additionally, starting in 2023 the State will also require a training on the diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s. I encourage all of you to read about these new requirements HERE.
