Hello Southern District!
Welcome to the month of February! February is Black History Month and a wonderful time to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of Black Americans. Throughout U.S. history, Black Americans have resisted all forms of historical and ongoing oppression. Efforts such as sit in’s, protests, boycotts, strikes, and walkouts have taken place by Black Americans and white allies in the pursuit of self-determination and the fight for justice for all. The NASW proudly commemorates Black History month and the ongoing efforts of social workers to continue this fight against discrimination and systemic oppression to create a more just society for all. To learn more about the contributions of black social workers, I have included this link: NASW Celebrates Black History Month! - YouTube
Happy Black History Month to all!
In solidarity,
Dr. Diona Shelton, DSW, LCSW, CATP, CCTP
