October 2020 - Three Rivers District Update

Diana Alejandro, Three Rivers District Chair

Hello Three Rivers District!

Welcome to our newest members and those that have renewed your membership.

As I sit and look out my window at the beautiful sunrise, I think about what will today bring. Yes, cooler temperatures, falling leaves, and maybe even a pumpkin spice latte. Yet my mind continues to think, what will October bring? More uncertainty? More unrest? When will it all end? So I ask what are we as social workers doing to bring peace? How are we being those change agents? So amidst a new season, let us all continue to be the change agents in the world. Please take care of yourselves and those closest to you. I am hopeful that together we will rise.

The district is hosting a CEU panel discussion featuring Johnathan Carillo, LCSW, PhD; Yolanda Jordan, LCSW; and Donell Barnett, PhD, on Mental Health Care Disparities Across Race and Ethnicity. I hope you will consider attending on Thursday, October 15, 2020 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM. Please use this link to register https://naswil.wufoo.com/forms/43020101520three-rivers-district-event/

Some of you may have noticed our recent news item about the NASW-Illinois Chapter Task Force on Racial Justice. The task force will be releasing their survey to the chapter membership in early October, and they will be looking for full member participation. Please be sure you are opting in to receiving chapter communications via e-mail to ensure receiving this important survey which will help to inform the chapter’s future advocacy efforts. Check your e-mails in early October for the survey when it is sent out! All responses will be due by Sunday, October 18th. Thanks to task force co-chairs Latesha Newson and Kristin Rubbelke for leading the group in developing this survey.

Social Justice & COVID-19 Resources

In addition to the COVID-19 sub-tab on our news page, the chapter has also created a social justice sub-tab for news and information pertaining to social justice in Illinois. You can find both either at the links below as well as national’s extremely valuable COVID-19 resources page.

Updates on Licensure Renewal & Telehealth Practice During COVID-19

Two of the most frequently asked questions we’ve been getting from members over the last few months is whether the IDFPR in-person requirements for CEUs will be waived for the current licensure cycle and whether they can continue to see clients via telehealth platforms when they/the client/etc. are in different states. In case you missed it, read more at the links below:
