August 2021 - Calumet District Update

Latesha Newson, LCSW, Northeastern District Chair

Greetings Calumet District,

I hope that you all are well and continuing to serve and do this fearless work called social work. We are fast approaching the end of this year, and I would like to remind us that this is a licensing renewal year. Please take advantage and register for CEU workshop offerings from our chapter.

I also would like to take this opportunity to highlight and inform you of the great work that our NASW-Illinois Chapter Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee (NASW-IL DEIC) has accomplished. The NASW-DEIC committee has made great impact in in our advocacy and policy influence as it relates to educational reform for Chicago Public Schools. Below is our official statement from our chapter as well as our feature in the Chicago Defender. May this be a reminder of our undeniable influence and impact as social workers. We indeed have the power to create change in this world!

Latesha Newson, MSW, LCSW

NASW-IL Advocacy at Work: Governor Signs HB3308, Making Permanent Many 2020 Telehealth Provisions

This month, Governor Pritzker signed House Bill 3308 into law, making permanent many of the provisions made in 2020 to allow for safer access to healthcare for all Illinoisans. Most critically, the legislation aligns telehealth coverage and payment with in-person care, making appropriate patient access to care the priority. Passage of this bill was made possible by members like you who contacted their legislators and stressed the importance of access to telehealth in the lives of their clients.
