August 2022 - Calumet District Update

Samantha Allen, MSW, LCSW, Calumet District Chair

Greetings Calumet District,

Happy August!

I hope you all are enjoying your summer and finding ways to enjoy the warm weather while it is here. Back-to-school is approaching, and I know you all are working to transition yourself and the children back to school life and routines. Hopefully, you can find fun and safe ways to do so and continue to enjoy the remainder of the summer. Please do so with consideration for the fact that the numbers for COVID-19 are still rising. In addition, Governor Priztker has declared a public health emergency due to the rise in numbers of cases in Monkey Pox. Monkey Pox is impacting vulnerable populations that will benefit from support and resources. Should you need to locate resources, you can do so at either of the links below:

Gratitude to all of you for the hard work that you contribute to the field of social work! Be sure to be good to yourself!

Warm Regards,

Samantha Allen, LCSW

Social Work Compact Initial Draft Released—Your Feedback is Needed!

The Council of State Governments (CSG) released an initial draft of the Social Work Compact for review and public comment. Due to the significant impact the compact will have on Illinois social workers, we are requesting all Illinois social workers to review the draft model language and to submit your feedback on the document to the chapter by Monday, August 15, 2022. We will be reviewing and collating all feedback on the compact for review by the NASW-Illinois Chapter Board of Directors as well as for the larger national NASW listening session. For links to the draft language as well as where to submit your feedback, go to: https://www.naswil.org/post/social-work-compact-initial-draft-released-your-feedback-is-needed
